Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our bacteriostatic water, ordering, and shipping.
Product Questions
What is bacteriostatic water?
Bacteriostatic water is sterile water that contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits the growth of bacteria, which allows the vial to be accessed multiple times while maintaining the sterility of the solution. It is one of the most commonly used solutions in research and laboratory environments.
What is the difference between bacteriostatic water and sterile water?
The key difference is the preservative. Sterile water contains no additives and is intended for single use — once accessed, it should be discarded. Bacteriostatic water contains 0.9% benzyl alcohol, which prevents bacterial growth and allows the vial to be used multiple times over a 28-day period.
What is phosphate buffered saline (PBS)?
Phosphate buffered saline is an isotonic buffer solution that maintains a stable pH of 7.4. It contains a balanced mix of sodium chloride and phosphate salts. PBS is widely used in research for sample dilution, reagent preparation, and equipment rinsing.
What sizes do you offer?
We offer bacteriostatic water in 10mL and 30mL vials, and phosphate buffered saline in 10mL vials. Each product is available as a single vial or in multi-pack configurations (5-pack, 10-pack, and 25-pack) with increasing per-unit savings.
How should I store bacteriostatic water?
Store at controlled room temperature between 20°C and 25°C (68°F – 77°F). Keep away from direct sunlight and do not freeze. Once a vial has been accessed, use the remaining contents within 28 days using proper aseptic technique.
Do you provide Certificates of Analysis?
Yes. Every production lot comes with a Certificate of Analysis (COA) documenting tested parameters including pH, sterility, endotoxin levels, and preservative concentration.
Where are your products manufactured?
All of our products are manufactured in the United States in facilities that adhere to current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) standards.
